Train Fest 2011

|Home|

Train Fest 2011 was an event held in Rock Island, Illinois from July 21 through July 24, 2011 and included the Illinois Railway Museum’s historic CB&Q train set – The Nebraska Zephyr.  On July 24, the Zephyr took passengers from Rock Island to Bureau, IL and return, this being the first time in over 40 years the public was able to ride the Zephyr off of museum grounds since it was taken out of regular service in the 1960’s.  The pictures on this page take the Zephyr from the Museum in Union, IL to Rockford, IL where the Canadian Pacific took over.  Accompanying the Zephyr was the 411, an ex-Chicago & North Western F7 covered wagon, and a Chicago, Burlington & Quincy SW7 diesel switch engine, the 9255.  Handling the movement from Union to Rockford on July 19, 2011 was a former C&NW crew, Engineer Dave Hawley and Conductor Darrell Hubbard.  Thanks to Mark Llanuza, we have these pictures.

Engineer Dave Hawley show off his track warrant that reads CBQ 9255 West.  Now, why didn’t the warrant read CB&Q 9911A West since that was the lead unit?  The Dispatcher said the computer would not take the letter “A” so the third unit was used, which was the CBQ 9255.
