The 1385 & the 1776
|Home|
From Ted Lontkowski come
these pictures of the 1385 and 1776. The
1385 photos were taken at Butler in
1987, which was the last year the 1385 handled the Circus Train and probably
was the last time the engine was at Butler. Chris
Burger tells us the lettering on the auxiliary water car and a couple of
other details on the locomotive that changed over the years confirm the 1987
date. Ted’s first 18 years of railroading were with the C&NW, then to
the SOO, CP, SP and finally the UP in Texas. Thanks, Ted
and Chris!

Here’s
the 1776 with its Bi-Centennial paint job at West Bend,
WI in late 1975 or early 1976. Lots of railroads had Bi-Centennial
engines, but this was one of the few whose actual number was 1776. That’s Ottens store in the background, once
a fixture in West Bend.
