Illinois Division

38 Years of Service

Engineer Orville Schultz hired out in July 1941 on the Galena Division and retired in July 1979 on the same division, now known as the Illinois Division, with 38 years of service.  Thanks to Mark Llanuza, we have these pictures from Orville’s last trip and retirement party a few days later at Richmond, Illinois.  A cameraman from NBC Television rode the engine from CPT to Clybourn, filming the first few miles of Orville’s last trip.  The sign you see on the back of the last car was duplicated on the engine – you just don’t see this type of recognition any more!   (Our thanks to Mark Llanuza for this story and the  photo.)

Orville Schultz’s last run on Train No.639 to McHenry in July 1979.  The train has just backed in and here’s “Waxy” Wilcox,” Orville & Joe Pedejas.  A similar sign was also on the engine.

A little later, Orville is receiving his service award.  The man on the left is unidentified and may be the trainmaster at CPT.  Others are:  Joe Pedejas, Orville, “Big Al” Jenkins (bartender on the Harvard Club Run) & “Waxy.”

You can tell Orville will be missed!
