On Saturday, May 28, 1955, Galena
Division engineer Henry P. Fane
brought Train No. 112, The City of Denver, into the Chicago Passenger Terminal
winding up 45 years of service with the Chicago & North Western Ry. On hand to greet him were some 30 or more
friends and neighbors who’d made the trip in from West Chicago
to surprise him upon his arrival at 8:30 am. In the cab and partially out of the picture
is Henry’s fireman, Ed Van Teese. The man in the sport shirt standing on the
steps of the engine appears to be the organizer of this event; perhaps it’s
Henry’s son. This fine picture was
contributed by Dusty Burman of Phoenix,
AZ.
