Green Bay Chapter Meeting

March 19, 2014

 

The following minutes to be read at our next meeting at the Titletown Restaurant on April 16, 2014.

 

Minutes of the combined Green Bay chapters of NARVE and the C&NW Vets.

 

Meeting opened at 9AM in the front conference room at the National RR Museum.

 

C&NW Chapter president Truman Koehn read the minutes of our previous meeting on Feb 19, 2014.

 

5 members braved the snowfall and winter like weather.

 

No activities to report from NARVE at this time.

 

New Business:  The subject of the C&NW 1385, an R-1 class steam locomotive currently being rebuilt in Wisconsin at a reported cost of $500,000, was discussed.  Information on this project can also be found on the Internet.

 

Old Business:   None

 

 

Report on  sick members.  Retired conductor Ed Drath at Woodside Lutheran home in Ashwaubenon.  Retired engineer Dick Piontek at home.

 

Report on deceased members:   None known.

 

Discussion:  Talk centered around the C&NW operations at Manitowoc and are the tracks still "in" on the Two Rivers line. The Two Rivers line was scheduled to be removed 10 years ago.   Also mentioned is deceased C&NW engineer Al Hinrich's grand daughter is now in charge of volunteers at the National RR Museum in Green Bay.  Also discussed was the operation of the Milwaukee Road's "Speedliner" crack passenger trains of the 1930's, 40's and 50's,

 

Meeting closed at 10AM

 

Our next meeting, after our meeting of April 16, will be held May 21 at the National RR Museum.
