The following minutes to be read at our next meeting at the National Railroad Museum on  Wednesday November 19, 2014.

President Truman Koehn  of the C&NW Veterans Association  read the minutes of the previous meeting which was our 21st Annual Luncheon meeting held at the Stadium View on Friday September 19, 2014.

8 members were in attendance.

No activities to report from NARVE at this time.

Old Business:  None.

New Business:  Discussion on the following items:

RRB Financial Report shows that as of September 30, 2013 has assets of 26.7 billion dollars and should not have cash flow problems for the next 25 years barring sudden, unanticipated, large decrease in Railroad employment or substantial investment losses.

CSX Railroad rejected an offer to merge with CP Railroad  If merged the combined company would have 18 billion in annual revenue and 35,000 miles of track, the most among Class 1 railroads.

United Taconite and Minerals now needs access to the land on which Minnesota U.S. Highway 53 now runs.  The 1960 agreement required the highway to moved within 3 years of receiving the lease termination, but extended it to 7 years which will be up in 2017  The location for the removal of Highway 53 is between Eveleth and Virginia, MN.  We are not sure if this will impact the DWP/CN or the DMIR, or how far the detour route will be.

Rod Ewert advised that the CN is currently running approximately 32 trains daily on the Adams Subdivn. and are importing train crew from other Railroads to handle the addition traffic.

Herb Hessil advised that Amtrak is complaining about freight trains delaying their passenger trains due to heavy volume of freight trains.

We also talked about the disgruntled Rail Link 22 year old employee that stole 2 BNSF locomotive and went on a 13 mile joyride before crashing into  an UP train and hit it at about 10 mph, then backed up and hit it a second time before a Rail Link employee hit the fuel cut off switch. The man was employed at the North Antelope Rochelle Mine in Wyoming and ran through several switches at the mine before going on the main line which will cost about $60,000 to repair the switches alone. He will face up to 20 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.

Report on sick members:  Nothing new to report.

Report on deceased members:  Rosemary Mogan, wife of Milwaukee Rd conductor and retired UTU General Chairman John Mogan (non member) passed away, however no date or age is available.

Rosanne Mohr, wife of Robert D. Mohr (member), former CTD on C&NW passed away on October 10, 2014 at the age of 89.

Our next meeting (after November 19, 2014 will be at the National Railroad Museum on Wednesday December 17, 2014.
