Minutes:
The Green Bay Chapter of the C&NW Veterans Assoc. had our 19th annual
luncheon meeting at the Stadium View on
The following minutes to be read at our next meeting at the Titletown
Restaurant & Brewery,
President Truman Koehn of the C&NW Veterans Green Bay Chapter called the
meeting to order at
68 members and non-members were in attendance at this luncheon.
Lunch consisted of chicken and tenderloin tips, family style.
Truman introduced all visitors and officers in attendance and asked them to
make remarks if they wished. Later, the floor was opened to all who wished to
make any comments they felt appropriate.
Old Business: Truman read segments of a letter dated March 27 and written
by Edward Hamberger, President & CEO of the American Association of
Railroads to Rep. Paul Ryan. Ryan, chairman of the House Budget
Committee, introduced legislation to reduce Railroad Retirement benefits to the
level of Social Security, which was passed by the US House but was later
defeated in the US Senate. The AAR
opposed this legislation (as did all the rail unions) as not one penny of
taxpayer monies has ever been used in connection with Railroad pensions. And as such, and the Railroad pension being
self funded, no taxpayer dollars would be saved to reduce the federal budget.
Members are advised the Railroad Retirement pension system is in very solid
financial condition and is projected to remain very solid for decades.
New Business: Truman talked about Section 5 of our Association by laws,
concerning Life Membership requirements for members of the C&NW Vets
Association. This is available to
all members over the ago of 80, who have been members for 10 years, OR have
become totally disabled.
The Milwaukee annual luncheon on October 20, 2012 was announced.
Cost is $14.50 per plate. Deadline for reservations is October 12, 2012.
Herb Hessil, Chapter Vice President, read the names of 15 C&NW members
and non-members that have passed away in the past year since out last
annual luncheon on September 16, 2011. People in attendance were asked if
there was anyone from our area not listed and none were given.
Lauren Bockin, Sec. Treas. gave a short financial report.
Sick member(s) and non-member(s) as reported by those in attendance: Cliff
Bouche retired Green Bay switchman.
Rod Ewert came to the podium and told a few well received jokes.
Raffle and door prizes were given out. Thanks to all who contributed to
the success of this part of our program which took about an hour.
Our annual luncheon meeting was adjourned at 2:45pm.
The next meeting (after October 17, 2012) of the Green Bay Chapter will be on
Wednesday November 21, 2012 at the National Railroad Museum.
