Wisconsin Division engineer Charlie Meroff sitting in his train room on 12/11/06 and on the right – Charlie with his hat collection.  Dave Hawley visited Charlie that evening and both had a good time talking about their railroad careers.  Earlier that day, Charlie learned that he’d been officially retired at age 65 and was no longer considered disabled.   Just about a month later, on January 15, 2007, Charlie passed away.

Operator Norman Horn hired out on the C&NW in 1949.  That year, he worked at Lake Geneva, Kedzie, Creston, Richmond, Aurora & Nachusa.  In 1950, he worked at Dixon and later at Tower NX (Rochelle, IL.) until it closed in 1965. Norman now lives in Rochelle.  Photo taken on 09/06/06.
