Charlie McLaughlin Retires

Illinois Division

42 Years of Service

|Home|

Illinois Division Conductor Charlie McLaughlin retired in November 1998 with 42 years of service.  Elsewhere on the site are some pictures of Charlie taken around the time he hired out and also of Charlie’s father, Clarence (Mac) McLaughlin.  Mac was also a conductor on the Galena Division (later renamed Illinois Division) and had a seniority date of 08/22/1941.  Click here to go to that page.  At the time of his retirement, Charlie was the last active conductor who’d worked passenger trains to Williams Bay.

Sincere thanks to Mark Llanuza for these pictures and to Rex Hauser for making the identifications.

Here to congratulate Charlie on his last day are:  Finn Thorsen, Dean Moose (standing), Charlie, Jim Zorbas, Charlie’s wife Hope and Adriane.

Also present were:  (l. to r.) Doug Smith, Bernard Butcher, Robert Tinson, Charlie, Melvin Russell, Jerry Lindsey, Bill Lundell, Skip Pierce and Dean Moose.

Jim Hansen and Charlie.

Dave Grewe presents the retirement plaque to Charlie and Hope.

Here’s Charlie on his last day in November 1998.  Charlie worked a McHenry job that made a mid-day trip to Geneva and that’s where this picture was taken.
