Cliff Gilmore & Mark Llanuza start off Page 5 with some recent pictures and some from the past. Thanks, Cliff & Mark!  Other contributions are welcome and appreciated.  Please send them to the webmaster.

C&NW retiree's from northwestern Illinois met for their 5th annual Dinner in East Dubuque, IL on July 17, 2010.  From left to right: are: Mary Ann & Philip Leitherer, Don Hart, E.J. & Patricia Stevens, Bill & Mary Anne Linsey, Cliff & Mary Gilmore, Woody Wilson, Don & Mary Scott & Carol & Phil Knox.  Our thanks to Cliff Gilmore for this fine picture.  There are about enough here to form a Northwestern Illinois Chapter.  How about it, guys?

Illinois Division Rex Hauser, taken in August 2008.

Rex Hauser with Wisconsin Division engineers Rudy Dedman & Charlie Cain taken in August 2008.  These men have 105 years of service in total; Rex with 37, Rudy with 38 and Charlie with 30.

Here’s the 4489 eastbound at Elgin Junction (B-35) in 1980.  Engineer Elmer Bethke is on the engine and hanging on the side, getting ready to get off and throw the switch is Joel Heldt.  25 years later in 2006, Joel was one of the last three CGW men on the railroad.  The others were Don Scott (retired about 02/2006) and Tommy Tucker, who in June 2010 is still working.  Joel retired earlier in 2007.  Elmer’s seniority date is 09/15/1948.

Tommy Tucker, the last CGW man, taken shortly before he retired in late 2007.  Occasionally, some erroneous information comes forward.  We just learned in June 2010 that Tommy Tucker is still working!

Brakeman Jerry Mathey and Conductor Bud Jason, both now retired, are on the 6:00 am Elk Grove job backing up near Howard St., Des Plaines in 2004, just before this work went to the road.  Thanks to Mark Llanuza for the photo and to Rich Sandowski for identifying the men.

Long-time C&NW employees Sheldon Soldwisch and Gordy Bowe at Harvard on the 2007 Santa Train in December 2007.  Together, these men have over 70 years of service.

On board the Chicago Railroad Superintendent’s special train on 08/30/07 were (left picture) Bill Otter (center), retired C&NW V.P. of Transportation and Don Orsino (right).  Don is presently Metra’s Chief Safety & Rules Officer and previously was an engineer with the C&NW.  At the left is Ed DeRouen, well known rail author.  In the right hand picture is retired Conductor Jim Yanke.  The special operated on the CP between Milwaukee and the Union Station and had CP steam engine 2816 on the head end.

In January of 1989, EMD delivered some locomotives for the UP.  They were taken to Bryn Mawr by the SOO Line where the C&NW took over.  Handling that assignment were (left to right) Brakeman Frank Wheeler, Conductor Dorsey Wilson and Engineer Floyd Bryant, all shown in the left hand picture.  In the right hand photo is Frank Wheeler.

Engineer Floyd Bryant.

Here’s Tom Horvath, Manager of Operating Practices.  Tom started on the C&NW in the early 1990’s as a brakeman and subsequently was a Conductor and Engineer before his present assignment.  This picture was taken at Global 3 in early September 2007.
