2006 Santa Safety Train

The 2006 Santa Safety Train operated between Elburn and Chicago on Sunday, December 3, 2006 and thanks to Santa (aka Mark Llanuza) we have these pictures.  The train made all stops between Elburn & CPT and quickly filled with children and their parents who’d purchased advance tickets for this trip.  There was a two-hour layover at Chicago and then the train returned to Elburn.  The children all received Christmas presents and the parents took part in a raffle.  Needless to say, a good time was had by all!

Ready to leave Elburn Sunday Morning, December 3, 2006.

On the left is Santa, aka Mark Llanuza.  On the right, Engine 154

The train was in charge of Conductor Dino Grumbos and Engineer Randy Barber, both long-time North Western men.

Tom McNamara, former C&NW conductor and now Metra Safety Director

Dino and Head Elf Mary Flynn.

Here are all the Elves and Helper Elves.  In the bright red hat with the white stripe is Pat Mitchell and just to the left of Pat is Head Elf Mary Flynn, both with many years of C&NW service.

Santa joins the Elves and Helper Elves, but seems to have misplaced his hat!  Standing about in the middle of the picture and partially hiding Mary and Pat, is Engineer Sheldon Soldwisch, another long-time North Western man.
